An Array of International Wedding Hors D'oeuvres

!9#: An Array of International Wedding Hors D'oeuvres

Weddings are all about blending families and cultures, everything from your great-aunt's wedding jewelry to your fiance's family church. Beyond wedding jewelry and the like, another fantastic opportunity for mixing cultures is with the wedding food. Here are some great suggestions for an international array of wedding hors d'oeuvres.

Exploring different cultures and traditions through food is one of the best parts about weddings. The foods need not be from your own cultural background or heritage. One very modern approach to the cocktail hour is to offer guests a variety of appetizers from all around the globe. It can be set up in stations, with each one representing a different region or type of cuisine. Your guests will really enjoy snacking their way around the world in the course of an hour or two.

Asian food is very popular and it makes a great place to begin planning your international wedding hors d'oeuvres menu. Fried wontons with little dipping sauces are a sure-fire hit. Another delicious appetizer idea is tiny mu shu pancakes tied with a piece of scallion or other edible tidbits. Little cups of egg drop soup will be much enjoyed by guests on a cool evening.

Greek cuisine offers many tasty appetizer options for wedding cocktail hours. You can bet that guests will gobble up mini pitas stuffed with gyro meat, feta, and a cool cucumber sauce. Phyllo dough is a favorite ingredient for Greek food, and it lends itself beautifully to creating yummy hors d'oeuvres. Phyllo triangles filled with spinach and goat cheese are elegant and delicious, perfect for a passed tray of appetizers. Stuffed grape leaves are another excellent addition to the cocktail hour menu.

Mexican and Spanish cuisine offer many more delicious ideas for the wedding cocktail hour. Empanadas are loved for their savory/sweet combination, and the closed shape of them makes them an easy food to eat while standing up. Mini tacos or chimichangas may remind the bride too much of sports bar food, but guess what: the guys at the reception will wolf them down. Or arrange for a Spanish tapas bar, serving all the little bites which are so popular: everything from olives, battered squid, chorizo, cured meats, cheeses, and small pieces of bread. A tapas station is an upscale addition to any wedding reception.

French cuisine has long held a reputation as the pinnacle of culinary delights, and it also has many hors d'oeuvres which would be ideal for an international selection of appetizers. The word hors d'oeuvres itself is French, after all. There are any number of French appetizers, ranging from delightful canapes to crispy cold crudites to luscious cheeses served with fruit. For passed hors d'oeuvres, you might consider croutons topped with foie gras and caviar, artichoke hearts filled with chicken mousse, and smoked salmon on croutons. French cuisine also lends itself to a fabulous spread at a wedding reception station. The centerpiece can be puff pastry wrapped baked Brie with apricots. Other additions to the station can include an assortment of French goat cheeses and pates with crackers.

This is only the tip of the iceberg. Your around the world appetizers stations can also include Japanese sushi, Italian antipasto, and maybe even something American like comfort food (mashed potato shooters, anyone?) or soul food. Whichever cultures and cuisines you choose to represent, one thing is for sure: your guests will not leave your wedding hungry!

Looking to add a little "ooh la la" to your wedding? Trying to put together a reception with that perfect "je ne sais quoi"? Why not give your wedding a chic European flair with these fabulous French-inspired wedding details? The results are sure to be "magnifique"!

When planning a wedding with French details, the only place to begin is with the wine. Make your wedding an event to remember by serving a flight of fine French wines with dinner. What that means is that a sommelier pairs each course of the meal with a wine which is the perfect complement to the food. It is a truly fine way to present an elegant dinner. Another idea would be to have a tasting of a selection of French wines during the cocktail hour, led by a wine expert. If you want to carry this theme farther, have your rehearsal dinner at an elegant wine bar (most will have private rooms for hosting parties). Naturally, French Champagne will be a priority for any Francophile's wedding!

The food will be one of the highlights at a French-inspired wedding. You can really make a splash during the cocktail hour with passed hors d'oeuvres such as canapes and mini quiches and stations overflowing with French cheeses (Brie in puff pastry!) and fresh baguettes. For dinner, consider serving classic French fare like escargots, poulet a la Provencale (chicken sauteed with white wine, capers, garlic, leeks and tomatoes), or filet mignon (make it special by topping it with a tasty French sauce). Small trays of French pastries would be a wonderful dessert course. Follow with either a regular tiered wedding cake with a French design such as fleur-de-lis, or opt for the authentic French wedding cake, the croquembouche.

Little French touches can be infused throughout the rest of the wedding. The bride can wear a gown made from French lace paired with glamorous bridal jewelry. Can't afford Cartier for your bridal jewelry? Then take your inspiration from another famous French designer, Coco Chanel, and wear fabulous fakes or ropes of layered pearls. Hair should be chic and sophisticated, and naturally a classic French manicure would be the perfect beauty treatment.

Music is a wonderful way to convey a mood at a wedding, so why not treat your guests to classic French songs such as those by Edith Piaf, the beloved French chantuese. In addition to her well known version of "La Vie en Rose", she has a range of upbeat songs such as "Milord" to get guests in the mood to dance. Speaking of roses, the sophisticated and romantic flower would make a lovely decoration for the reception tables.

Bring French accents to your wedding wherever you can. Vintage postcards of Paris would make marvelous save-the-date cards. Splits of French Champagne or wine could be the wedding favors, perhaps personalized with a tag reading "merci". The style and romance of France is a wonderful source of inspiration for a memorable and chic wedding.

Bridal Shower Menu - Wine & Cheese Party

!9# Bridal Shower Menu - Wine & Cheese Party

    [if ]
    [endif]

A celebration of wine and the cheese may be the choice for excellence for an elegant bachelorette party. Women love to nibble and graze on and off a spread of fine cheeses, crackers, fruit and wine (along with some sweet treats) just perfect. And 'the choice and variety of these to define the party and the local wine and cheese party.

    Cheese:

We want to offer at least four types of cheese. It 'important to distinguishthe taste and texture of these, as well as aesthetics. My recommendation would be a good cheddar cheese (white or yellow), (Maytag blue is a good choice if you do not want anything too strong) a blue, a soft cheese like Camembert cheese (make sure to bring to room temperature, so who is in his creamy when served) and Gouda. Place a tent cards on the table before any cheese with his name - your guests will want to know what they are sampling.

RecommendPut a glass figurine preserved (if you can not find cool, you can use raspberry) next to Camembert. Crackers covered with jam and a bit 'of Camembert cheese is absolutely delicious.

I also like a cheese "zone", whether in the form of serving fondue or better yet - a brie en croute. The following a round of brie cheese wrapped in puff pastry and baked until golden brown. I like the first cut the Brie in half (top and bottom - not side by side). I have a spread in the bottom halfthin layer of peach jam, pecans, chopped, a teaspoon of brown sugar and a pinch of cayenne pepper teeny. Put the top half on it and then wrap the dough. This can be done a day ahead (though not in the oven) - just be cool, cover with plastic wrap until ready to cook e.

    The Crackers:

Be sure to vary the cracker they put out - like cheese. A butter crackers (such as Keebler ® Town House), a seeded bun crackers and a richWheat crackers makes for a nice selection. If crackers are more interesting, by all means, too.

    Fruit:

Of course, grapes are a perfect match and a "must" for a feast of wine and cheese. Be sure to serve at least two colors of grapes (green and red). It's going in bundles, as the most beautiful view. But not all - Pears are also a natural. Cut the pears into slices just before the guest arrives and rub a lemon on theirTo avoid surface that will not brown. Cantaloupe and honeydew melons are also a natural choice. Or cut them into thin slices or cubes. I also like to put out bowls of pomegranate seeds. They are not only beautiful to see - are a delicacy for the most part.

    The wine:

Like everything else - serve a variety. Two are white and two red wines perfectly. For white - to offer a chocolate on the side (perhaps a Riesling) and another in the dryand razor sharp side (a Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc). As for the red choices - try one of the sides "lighter" (Pinot Noir or Beaujolais Nouveau is a good choice) and a full-bodied (a French Bordeaux or California Cab would be perfect). Of course, make sure there are soft drinks - whether water, soda or the like.

    Desserts:

In line with the party theme - bite-size morsels like cheesecake bites miniature chocolates (truffles and candies)and / or small biscuits everything would work fine. A "serving" is not necessary for this, after the wine and cheese - these can be set from the beginning. Coffee and tea should be served.
